Well, what can I say? A number of months ago, I decided that life needed to change. I was dreadfully unhappy at work and knew in my heart that what I was doing was not only making me unhappy during the day, but that I carried it to all the other aspects of my life. What I needed to do, as I discovered, was find my PASSION and go for it.
It sounds easier that it is! I have a BMath from the University of Waterloo, and have been working in Finance for 25 odd years. I’m good at what I do, but what I do isn’t very fun (with apologies to Wolverine, there). I needed to look at the things that make me happy … what could I do that, when I woke up in the morning I’d say “I can’t believe someone would pay me to do something that I enjoy so much!” After some soul searching, I realized that reading was a passion, and by extension, if I enjoyed reading so much, was it such a stretch for me to think that I would enjoy writing just as much, if not more. So that’s how I came here!
I’m now enrolled in a short fiction writing course and plan on posting my homework and writing and thoughts on here. All for the purpose of finding my voice, and I guess ultimately, sharing it with others.
